Dacia Jogger

Dacia Jogger - The Best Car You've Never Heard Of: The new Dacia Jogger is one of the most affordable cars on the market, but it's not your average bargain-basement runabout. In fact, it’s actually quite special and has received rave reviews from all corners of the auto industry. Given how cheap it costs and how much value you get from its features, it’s probably one of the best car deals out there right now and worth every penny! Here’s why...

A summary of the features

While most of its C-segment peers are focussing on SUVs and crossovers, Dacia is staying true to its roots with a regular car that looks like a dinky MPV but is actually based on an SUV platform. While you can’t spec it up to Audi Q5 levels of luxury, all cars come with seven seats as standard and options include leather and heated front seats.

Where to buy and at what price

The new Dacia Jogger is expected to hit showrooms in Europe at some point next year and will cost around £9,000. Given that price tag, it may be somewhat of a surprise to learn that it's actually based on an existing car. Indeed, underneath its new paint job, you'll find a Renault-Nissan Alliance A platform which also underpins various other small MPVs such as Nissan's Qashqai and Renault's Kadjar. Not only that but it is even possible to specify it with a small diesel engine taken from Nissan’s Micra C+C small crossover SUV – effectively making one of these smaller MPVs into an all-wheel drive crossover SUV! This may well appeal to families who want something practical but don't need something quite so big or rugged. Indeed, in some markets (such as China), Dacia already sells an AWD version of its Dokker model. And yet despite all of these positive points, there is one thing about the new Dacia Jogger that we should not ignore: namely that there are already a great many very good cars out there vying for your attention. In fact, we think it fair to say that there has never been more choice when it comes to buying a family hatchback or SUV than there is right now.

Pros and Cons

Dacia Jogger is a seven-seat

The Dacia Jogger is a seven-seat, C-segment MPV with a pretty reasonable price tag for what you get. There are two engine options: a 1.6 diesel with 109bhp and 188lb ft of torque (as tested) or a naturally aspirated 1.5 petrol producing 106bhp and 129lb ft. Both are mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard.. In terms of equipment, there’s air conditioning, cruise control and Bluetooth connectivity – but no sat nav; if that’s important to you then we’d recommend looking at cars in a higher segment like Ford’s S-Max or Kia’s Sedona. As far as safety goes, there are front, side and curtain airbags as well as ABS brakes. Euro NCAP awarded it four stars overall in its most recent tests. We haven’t driven it yet but based on its size alone we can see why it received such good reviews. It feels solid and doesn’t rattle around corners like some other similarly priced vehicles do. It also comes with a seven-year warranty – which is great news for those who might be concerned about reliability given Dacia’s Romanian roots. And let's not forget that because it's made by Renault, parts should be relatively easy to come by should anything go wrong down the line.

Safety rating and features

Dacia has developed a reputation for building incredibly durable and reliable cars, thanks to their simple designs and factory-fitting of safety gear. And while they haven’t been on sale in Australia since 2014, they’re still known as good all-rounders with a decent amount of space. They aren’t flashy, but they tick all of your boxes if you want an easy-to-use family car that doesn’t cost much money – and can even be pretty fun to drive. The new Dacia Jogger is no different. It comes with three engines (the most powerful of which is a 1.6-litre petrol) and seven seats (with two options for fitting them). There are also multiple trim levels available, depending on how flash you want your jogger to look. The new Dacia Jogger is built around a platform shared with Renault, which means it has some unique features like blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. It also gets ABS brakes (with EBD), hill hold assist, electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and emergency braking assistance (EBA). There are three trims available: Ambiance, Expression and Intens. All come standard with dual front airbags, side airbags and curtain airbags. All models also get ESP stability control, traction control and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The top-spec Intens model adds lane departure warning (LDW), forward collision warning (FCW) and autonomous emergency braking (AEB).

Customer reviews (good and bad)

One glance at Dacia’s regular car reviews and it’s clear that, at least in Europe, many motorists are extremely positive about their Dacia MPVs – although some car reviewers were less positive. The main criticisms in almost all of these jogger reviews have been of build quality (as you might expect with a more affordable brand), while others have complained that their Dacia SUV has an ‘underpowered engine’ or is too ‘basic’ for today’s market. But what did people say about Dacia’s new C-segment 7-seater? It seems like most car owners have absolutely no idea that such a vehicle exists. While there are certainly plenty of bad reviews out there, if you look hard enough you can find people who say they love their Dacia 7-seater – including several who say they would buy another one tomorrow if they could afford to! What do you think? Could Dacia be onto something here, or will its latest model simply join those other European cars that seemed great on paper but didn’t really stand up when put to the test by real drivers? How to get accessories like child seats, towbars etc.
