Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV First Look
What is EQS SUV?
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV First Look : Mercedes-Benz, EQS SUV. The all-electric SUV with three rows of seats will be at dealers this fall. But we now have all the latest information.
Walk-Around
Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV
The EQS SUV follows the EQS and EQE sedans on the market and will be offered in two trim levels. The EQS 450+ has a single motor powering the rear wheels, with an output of 355 horsepower, and 4419-pound-feet of torque. It draws power from a 108-kilowatt-hour battery pack, and based on the European standard, the EQS is estimated to return up to 373 miles on a single charge. Well, that benchmark is generally more optimistic than our real-world tests, but it's a safe bet over 300 miles, and it delivers 536 horsepower and 633 pound-feet of torque.. There are no 4MATIC range estimates yet, but we expect it to be closer to 300 miles. Compared to the gas-powered GLS, the EQS is a few centimeters shorter in every dimension. Standard features include adaptive air suspension, rear-wheel steering, adaptive cruise control, ventilated seats, and a new off-road mode that's good enough for some light terrain.
Like the style and price of the EQS SUV
Prices haven't been announced yet, but it's a
safe bet it will be over 100,000. So let's talk about design. I personally like
it. It's a bit simpler than EQS, and that might be a good thing for many
people. Because I've seen a lot of comments that EQS can be a bit sloppy. It's
a little smoother, a little more SUV, a little more presence. There's no EQS
now, but that's good because it's more aerodynamic and makes more sense when it
comes to range. There are also these panels that actually improve aerodynamics.
There are hinged door handles for aerodynamic efficiency. And on the back
there's a sense of design and plenty of cues from other EQ models. All in all,
it's a spectacular electric SUV you can find. So let's take a look inside,
shall we?
How is the interior of the EQS SUV?

Here, the EQS SUV is in some ways quite similar to the EQS sedan. We now have that Hyperscreen, and the Hyperscreen is standard on the upgraded model. Not in the base model, but at least it's an option. It's amazing, but one thing that struck me about the EQS setting was so many thoughts that distracted me here and there. There is an option for this third screen for the passenger. And it's really interesting because the driver is driving with the passengers watching a movie or something. If the driver takes their eyes off the road and starts staring at this screen, it darkens. So there is a lot of intelligence in it. As a woodworking enthusiast, I love what they do here. And as a bonus, all those little stars are actually aluminum coming out of the surface of a tree. Then it was engraved with some kind of laser and then pressed. As usual, the quality of the materials is what you would expect from a Mercedes. Great. Soft feel where everything should be, looks good and smells good. So from the front let's check the middle row. OK, so there's plenty of room here on the second line. You don't need that much space. Even with a panoramic sunroof, you fit perfectly with your feet under the driver's seat with plenty of headroom. And you don't feel trapped when you close the door. Lots of side space. Great place to spend time. Now here is a wood treatment unit similar to an air conditioning unit. We've got two USB-C inputs and some HDMI for these entertainment displays so everyone can focus. Of course, one of the biggest advantages of this is the third row, so let's see. Coming back is easy enough. A touch. It only opens as far as I can get through. I don't want to run into anything. Yes, there's plenty of room here. Now my head is touching the roof a bit, but I'm 5'10. And for occasional use, this is the perfect place for a dinner or a quick city tour. And There is room for your feet. The 3rd row seat is very comfortable. Luggage space behind the third row is very limited, but Mercedes claims he can fit four golf bags there. Folds flat to 28 cubic feet. And the second row is 71 cubic feet. It folds flat. very smart.
What is the charging power of the EQS SUV?
As an electric car, charging is of course very important. With a fast charging capacity of 200 kW DC, Mercedes claims the EQS can be charged from 10% to 80% in 31 minutes, or about 286 miles in 15 minutes. As an added bonus, EQS owners get two years of free shipping on the Electrify America network for as long as they use the Mercedes me Charge service. The service also includes access to charging networks that make it easy to pay with a single account. A plug-in charging station doesn't even need to swipe a card.
Carszap Take
The EQS SUV is a pretty impressive EV, and it's something that we don't really have competition for-- direct competition for yet. We have the Tesla Model X, but let's face it, the build quality and, let's say, the convenience of the cargo area doesn't match anything close to the EQS. There's also the smaller BMW iX, Cadillac LYRIQ and Rivian R1S. Now, we haven't driven those last two yet, but we will soon.
